A Great DEAN Adventure Camps Nurse is

  • Availability: Committed to the camp schedule (June–August, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, ~36-40 hours per week).


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and provide first aid for minor injuries or illnesses, e.g. scrapes, cuts, bruises, sunburns, and food allergies.
  • Administer medications as per camper health plans, including detailed documentation.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including health forms and incident reports.
  • Conduct health screenings and manage allergy and dietary needs.
  • Educate staff on basic health and safety protocols (e.g., first aid, sun safety).
  • Coordinate with parents to confirm health plans and communicate incidents such as head injuries or allergic reactions.
  • Manage medical supplies, ensuring the infirmary is well-stocked.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding camper health matters.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Current RN or LPN license (active and unencumbered).
  • Pediatric or camp experience preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle medical situations independently.
  • Excellent communication skills with both adults and children.
  • Valid CPR/BLS certification.
  • Willingness to adapt to an active, outdoor environment.

Physical and Health Requirements

  • Vaccinated against COVID-19 and up to date on all other immunizations and willing to provide proof.
  • Willing to submit a health form if a partnership location requires it.
  • Lift and carry 35 lbs independently with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Identify and quickly respond to emergencies.
  • Stand, walk, run, and climb stairs to respond to various situations quickly.
  • Sit for long periods and maintain mental and physical alertness.
  • Ability to maintain high energy and tolerance to environments with high activity and noise levels.
  • Ability to maintain composure, keep calm, and collect in high-energy environments.
  • Withstand daily exposure to weather and the elements (especially June-August).
  • Work 7-8 hour days during the months of June-August.

DEAN Adventure Camps Nurse Will Receive

  • Comprehensive Training:
    • 18-20 hours of paid training in leadership, behavior management, and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI).
  • Full reimbursement for required background checks and certifications:  
    • This may include certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and FBI fingerprinting.
